This strange film noir type image is a stock photo that depicts a woman with a knife looking at her feet. It was from a series of photos with men and women with knives cutting corns off of their feet.
This photograph is part of a collection of over 5000 stock-photo images from the 1930's to the late 1940's. The collection came out of the estate of a commercial artist who had worked in New York City as an illustrator. In his early years in the city, his advertising agency would give him groups of negatives to take home and develop. He would work late into the night with the photos and set them out all over the house to dry. His family would wake up to a living room and kitchen full of photos.
